With the launch of Ingelvac CircoFLEX® by Boehringer Ingelheim on the Russian market, pig producers in Russia now have access to the world’s market leading vaccine against porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2). The Russian authorities recently granted Ingelvac CircoFLEX® market authorization for use in pigs against diseases associated with PCV2. The vaccine is now being launched nationally in a series of meetings held across Russia during June.Ingelvac CircoFLEX® is being launched just as Russia begins to further expand its pig industry, encouraged by support from the Russian Government that aims at reducing or even eliminating the need for pork imports. Today, Russia produces more than two million tons of pork per year.
Ingelvac CircoFLEX® is already used successfully in 45 countries in Asia, the European Union, North America, South America, Oceania and Africa.
The single-shot PCV2 vaccine can be conveniently administered to pigs around weaning, providing them with an efficient protection against clinical signs and economic damages due to porcine Circovirus diseases.
Essentially, almost 100 percent of pig herds are infected with the PCV2 virus. Acute infections with the virus compromise the immunity of the pigs, leading to high mortality rates, an increased frequency of co-infections with other pathogens and a poor growth performance.
