Increased feed conversion ratio, stable mortality. What about growth?

To determine the causes of the increase in the feed conversion ratio of pigs, we must start by asking whether mortality has also increased.

In the first part of this tool for troubleshooting problems with the feed conversion ratio (FCR) we looked at the great economic importance of the FCR and what factors can affect it. There are several situations in which the feed conversion ratio during the grow/finish phases can be elevated. In order to resolve the problems, it will be necessary to establish an initial diagnosis that we will reach by applying the following decision-making process.

The first step is to determine if mortality has increased or not. If not, we should evaluate if:

The average daily gain has not been affected

1

The average daily gain is affected
