The period from birth to the nursery is the most sensitive one in the life of a pig. The piglets face many challenges since they are born: the environmental temperature, competition with their siblings, access to the udder, crushing by their dam, fosterings, hierarchy, weaning, transition to solid feed...

That's the reason why have started a new section called 'Piglet care'. In it, several authors will write about different facets of its management: its 48 first hours of life, the management of the foster sows, artificial lactation as an alternative to foster sows, the use of creep feed, key aspects in the nursery...

We encourage you to read the first article: 'Weaned pigs: they are not all the same. Age and weight dispersion' written by the swine veterinarian Joan Wennberg.
