According to DEFRA, following improvements during the early 1990s, the FCR for the pig fattening herd increased (i.e. more feed required per unit increase in pig weight), albeit with some fluctuations, particularly in recent years.

While pig feed production dropped by 1.7%, cattle and poultry feed have seen their production grow respectively by +0.8 and +0.6%.

The production of feeds for livestock nutrition reached 28,363,988 tonnes, which entails 1,327,064 tonnes less than in year 2011; this is, the drop has been by approximately 4.7%.

The system, designed to work in an industry setting, includes an ear tag applied to each animal, monitoring equipment and data recording and storage.

According to FEFAC, compound feed production in the EU-27 slightly increased by 0.7% in 2012 to 152.7 mio. t.
