To ensure control over the use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine, Order No. 1177 of the Ministry of Economy dated December 30, 2021, was approved and registered with the Ministry of Justice on January 13, 2022:

  • the procedure for the use of antimicrobial veterinary drugs in veterinary medicine;
  • the reporting procedure for veterinary medicine specialists who use veterinary antimicrobials for the treatment of animals to report the amounts they use.

“Antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products, antibiotics, remain the main drugs in the fight against bacterial infections in veterinary medicine. The uncontrolled, excessive use of such a drug in animal husbandry makes the problem of antimicrobial resistance a serious threat to human health. To ensure control over the use of antibiotics, the Ministry of Economy has developed an appropriate order with which market operators must comply. In order to prepare for the new regulation, a transitional period has been set until March 21, 2023, when the order will come into effect,” said Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine.
