According to the information published by the US Department of Agriculture, since 2014 the Ukrainian pig producers would have informed of the presence of many PED outbreaks. This situation would put at risk neighbouring EU countries such as Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.
It should be pointed out that, up to now, the Ukrainian veterinary authorities have not confirmed, officially, the presence of PEDv.
According to the USDA's information, the Ukrainian PEDv would be similar to a virus identified in China in 2010 and to the 2013 US virus, whilst it bears no resemblance to the viruses previously identified in Europe.
