The updated Code of Practice for the Welfare of Pigs in England came into force March 1, 2020 and replaces the previous code. Authorities and inspectors will refer to these guidelines as they conduct farm investigations.

Preventing tail docking and providing enrichment are among the key updates. The code is comprehensive and also includes guidelines from biosecurity to antibiotic use, to contingency planning. The code also suggests that the use of farrowing crates be phased out over time.
