The pig census increases in Italy

The number of fattening pigs as of December 1, 2017 has increased in the main pig producing regions of Italy.

The Italian National Association of Pork Breeders (ANAS) has published data on pig stocks as of December 1, 2017. The number of fattening pigs amounted to 8,570,807, an increase of 1.1%.

Out of the total population, almost half the fattening pigs are found in Lombardy (3,994,024), with an increase of 2.2% over the previous year, followed by Emilia Romagna, with around 1.43 million pigs (+2,1%), and Piemonte (−06 %), with just over one million.
