Although data is only available for January and February, 2026 shows a new trend with Asian markets playing a more prominent role. With the exception of 2019, when China was Portugal's main trading partner, Angola had always been the top destination for Portuguese pork exports.
However, in January and February, China was the largest importer of Portuguese pork and pork products, with nearly 1,000 tons traded. It was closely followed by the Philippines, a market that only opened in the second half of last year (861 tons), Angola (701 tons), and Japan (448 tons).

In terms of value, Japan leads imports with €1.83 million, clearly demonstrating this market's capacity to add value to imported products. The Philippines also ranks second according to this metric (€1.57 million), followed by Angola in third place (€1.46 million) and China in fourth (€1.44 million), a destination that receives only offal. The Malaysian and Mexican markets are expected to open in 2026.
