Pigs with vesicular lesions were found on two neighbouring pig farms in Kinmen county. The testing result of collected samples from National Laboratory showed positive reaction to RT-PCR test and virus isolation confirming the serotype O of foot and mouth disease infection. The gene sequence of the isolated virus from outbreak 1 shows serotype O SEA topotype. All the pigs (530) were destroyed and the cleaning and disinfection of the index farms were completed. The clinical inspection and epidemiological investigation on the surrounding farms that keep cloven-hoofed animals within 3-km radius of the index farms are underway.

Note by the OIE Animal Health Information Department: This is the first occurrence of FMD serotype O South-East Asia (SEA) topotype.
