The fund, established in 2009 in Switzerland to promote the rapid and widespread painless castration of piglets, was closed in late 2011 with a total of more than 13 million Francs. Switzerland is the first country to introduce compulsory general anesthesia during the castration of piglets.

This fund has benefited nearly 2,500 pig farms. Of these, two thirds have chosen to invest in tools to anesthetize the pigs while the remaining third has decided to leave the anesthesia to the veterinarians.
