Spanish imports of Dutch piglets soar

Spanish imports of piglets from the Netherlands increased 66% year-on-year during the first quarter.

According to RVO data for the first quarter of this year, Dutch piglet exports totaled 1.72 million head, an increase of 1.8% over the previous year.

The main destination continues to be Germany with 54.4% of the total number of piglets exported by the Netherlands, followed again by Spain with 26.8% of the total, then by Belgium and Luxembourg with 12.7%.

The significant increase in Spanish imports of Dutch piglets is worth mentioning, which increased by 66% compared to the first quarter of last year (278,457 vs. 462,694).

Spain follows its upward trend from last year during which it imported 17% more piglets than in 2019, with 1.24 million piglets imported from the Netherlands. (See: The Netherlands exports fewer piglets to Germany and more to Spain).
