Spain and China have reached new agreements in animal health and agri-food exports that strengthen bilateral cooperation and consolidate Spain{s position as a reliable and competitive supplier in the Asian market , one of the most important worldwide.

During the visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to Chine, five new cooperation protocols were signed, including two agreements related to pork:

  • A protocol was signed for the export of processed animal protein, which will allow the valorization of by-products derived from Spain's strong meat industry and contribute to improving the sector's sustainability and competitiveness.
  • Additionally, a modification of the existing pork export protocol was agreed, with the aim of including cooked products. This expansion will allow a greater number of Spanish companies to export processed products with heat treatment and strengthen their presence in they main export market.

The agreement also include the opening of the Chinese market to fertilizers produced from animal proteins, such as blood from the meat industry. This will enable the valorization of by-products from both an economic and environmental perspective.
