Sow inventory: Spain continues to go against the tide

While in most EU countries the number of breeding females is decreasing, in Spain it is increasing.

Last year, most EU countries with the exception of Spain, Romania, Latvia, and Finland, saw their sow inventory decrease again.

In Germany, the decrease was -7.3%, in France -3.83%, in Italy -3.08%, in Denmark -2.98%, in Belgium -2.27%, and in the Netherlands -1.41%.

In contrast, Spain continued to increase its breeding herd by 1.88%, from 2,635,250 sows in 2020 to 2,684,910 in 2021, according to Eurostat data.
