Slovenia - More animals slaughtered

In comparison with the previous month, in March 2011 the slaughter of sheep increased by about 35%, of pigs by almost 32%, of cattle by about 19%, of horses by exactly 16% and of poultry by about 14%.

In comparison with the previous month, in March 2011 the slaughter of sheep increased by about 35%, of pigs by almost 32%, of cattle by about 19%, of horses by exactly 16% and of poultry by about 14%. In the same comparison also the weight of dressed carcasses was higher for all types of animals slaughtered in slaughterhouses. The total weight of dressed carcasses of pigs slaughtered in March 2011 increased by almost 32%, of sheep by about 30%, of poultry by about 26%, of cattle by almost 20% and of horses by 17%.

Compared to March 2010, in March 2011 the slaughter of sheep decreased by about 62%, of poultry by about 10%, of cattle by about 9% and of pigs by almost 3%, while the number of slaughtered horses was about 7% higher. Compared to March 2010, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in March 2011 decreased by almost 60%, of cattle by about 8%, of pigs by almost 8% and of poultry by about 6%. The weight of dressed carcasses of horses was the same as in the previous year.

In March 2011, the same as in the previous month, no imported pigs were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses.
