Portugal: data on the pig slaughterings in the first trimester 2019

The weight at slaughter increased, and the number of slaughtered pigs dropped during the first trimester of 2019.

According to the data published by the GPP regarding pig slaughterings in Portugal, during the first trimester of 2019, the number of slaughtered pigs has dropped by 3%, whilst their weight at slaughter has increased by 0.3% with respect to the same period in 2018.

The figures show 1,291,640 animals between January and March 2019 versus 1,331,057 heads in the same period in 2018. These figures are itemised as follows: 1,036,808 pigs (-3.7% less than in 2018, when 1,076,868 pigs were slaughtered); 247,346 piglets (+0.3% than in 2018, when 246,544 piglets were slaughtered); and 7,486 breeders (-2.1% than in 2018, when 7,645 breeders were slaughtered).
