Estimates of the Gross Value of Production (VBP) of agriculture and livestock in Minas Gerais for 2023 point to total revenues of R$123.9 billion, representing a reduction of 0.7% compared to the previous year.

The projection was calculated in July, based on cumulative data from January to June, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), using information from the IBGE, the National Supply Company (CONAB), and the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA/USP).

Also according to Conab, a record grain harvest is expected in Minas Gerais, at approximately 18.7 million tons. Soybeans are the second largest crop in Minas Gerais, accounting for 22.3% of the total. Negotiations involving soy remained heated during June, due to the entry of the second corn crop.

Pork, on the other hand, is expected to grow by 7.4%, with revenues expected to reach R$3.8 billion in 2023. Despite the reaction in the prices paid for live pigs and meat in the second half of June, the monthly averages were below those recorded in May.

In the annual comparison, the variations in real terms followed opposite directions in the markets monitored by Cepea. In Greater Belo Horizonte, there was a monthly devaluation of 7.4%, with the animal being sold at R$6.48/kg in June, 4.8% lower than in the same period in 2022.
