The Chief Veterinary Officer announced significant changes to the regionalization of African swine fever (ASF) in Poland, which entered into force pursuant to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/280 of 2 February 2026 amending Annex I to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/594 regarding ASF control measures in the EU.

As of January 28, 2026, at the request of the Chief Veterinary Officer, the areas subject to Level III restrictions (the so-called "red zone") in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship – covering the counties of Gryfice, Kołobrzeg, Goleniów, Stargard, and Łobez – were abolished. As a result, no zones with the highest level of ASF restrictions are in force in Poland.

The current ASF zones I and II (areas subject to restrictions and surveillance) remain in force in accordance with national and EU regulations. This means that although the most restrictive restrictions have been lifted, measures related to, among other things, pig movement control, biosecurity, and wild boar handling, in accordance with veterinary guidelines, are still in place in parts of the country.

According to data from the General Inspectorate of Veterinary Swine (GWI) and ASF statistics in the EU as of February 2, 2026, the disease is still circulating in the environment – outbreaks in wild boar and sanitary restrictions remain a part of the ASF control system in both Poland and other member states.
