Poland: increase in the pig census

The pig census as of December 2017 shows increases in almost all age groups.

According to the preliminary data by the Central Statistical Office of Poland, in December 2017, the pig census amounted 11,897,600 heads, this entailing a rise by 7.1% with respect to December 2016.

The increase in the census affected most of the age groups, including fattening pigs (+11.4%), pigs between 20 and 50 kg (+10.7%), and pigs >50 kg (+5.7%), whilst the number of piglets dropped by 3.1%.

The sow census rose by 50,000 heads in comparison with December 2016 (+5.8%) and by 24,500 heads with respect to June 2017 (+2.8%).
