On December 4, 2019, the Chief Veterinary Officer reported the first case of African swine fever (ASF) in the Wielkopolska voivodship (Greater Poland) following an investigation conducted at the State Veterinary Institute.

The body of the wild boar was found in Wolsztyn county, approximately 5 km from the fence at the border of the Lubusz and Wielkopolskie voivodeships.

Recently, cases of ASF have been confirmed in feral pigs near the cities of Zielona Góra and Nowogród Bobrzański, only about 45 km from the German border.
