Many pork processing plants in the United States have been shut down or have very limited function due to their workers becoming ill with COVID-19. With these backups, hogs ready for market have nowhere to go. In some cases producers have had to turn to mass euthanasia while others may be able to use strategies to slow animal growth and buy more time.

The IPIC hosted a webinar on "Nutritional Strategies to Managing Pork Market Disruptions" on April 21, 2020 that answered frequently asked questions such as, "What are my other options for high fiber ingredients besides DDGS?" and "How low does lysine have to be to restrict growth?" along with questions about stocking density, temperature, and vices.

The complete list of questions and answers from the webinar can be viewed here.
