The 20 standing committees of the EP and two subcommittees held their constituent meetings last Wednesday to choose their Presidents and Vice Presidents.
For each committee, a President and up to four Vice Presidents are chosen for a term of two and a half years. The committees take care of the legislative proposals, they appoint negotiation teams to hold conversations with the EU Ministers, adopt reports, organize hearings and examine other bodies and institutions of the EU.
In the case of the Agri Committee, Mr Norbert Lins, of the European People's Party (EPP) has been appointed as the President, whilst the Vice Presidencies will be for the Portuguese Mr Francisco Guerreiro (The Greens/EFA) and the Romanian Mr Daniel Buda (EPP).
