Mexico: Pig inventory up 1.6% in 2022

The states of Jalisco, Sonora, Puebla, and Veracruz accounted for more than 50% of Mexico's swine inventory in 2022.

  • SIAP's estimated swine inventory for 2022 is 19,225,998 head which is 1.6% higher than in 2021.

Production to increase in 2023

  • Cumulative pork production in the first half of the year increased by 2.1% compared to the same period in 2022, from 834,523 to 852,057 tons.
  • The growth rate of pork production in the first half of the year (2.1%) was higher than that of poultry meat (1.7%) and beef (1.6%).
  • In the month of June, production reached 145,969 metric tons, an increase of 3.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and 0.5% compared to May.
