  • Pork production reached 1,768,525 tons (t) in 2023, an increase of 2.2% over 2022.
  • Compared to other proteins, the growth rate of pork was lower than that of poultry (2.8%), but higher than that of beef (1.8%).
  • More than 50% of pork production was concentrated in the states of Jalisco (23.3%), Sonora (17.8%), and Puebla (10.6%).
  • Imports reached a record 1,599,126 t in 2023, an increase of 4.2% compared to 2022. The total value of imports was USD 3314.6 million, with an implicit price of USD 2073/t, an increase of 0.1% compared to the average recorded the previous year (USD 2071/t).
  • Strong demand from the processing industry continued throughout the year and increased imports, despite higher prices.
  • Exports fell by 10.3% in 2023, going from 239,002 to 214,437 t, and their value (USD 831.4 million) decreased by 13.0%, consolidating an average export price of USD 3877/ton.
  • Low pork sales to China would largely explain the drop in export volumes.
  • The swine production trade balance in 2023 resulted in a deficit of USD 2,483.2 million.
  • Apparent consumption reached 3,153,214 t in 2023, an increase of 4.2% compared to 2022, with an estimated 49.3% of its composition being domestic product, while the remaining 50.7% corresponds to imports.
