The reference market for pigs in Spain, Mercolleida, held an extraordinary meeting on Monday to review the prices set last Thursday and establish new values for the current week following the appearance of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boars in the country last Friday.
As a result of the session, prices have been adjusted significantly downwards. The finishing pig price has fallen by 10 cents per kilogram live weight, settling at €1.20/kg, compared to the previous €1.30/kg. Meanwhile, sows are now priced at €0.48/kg (-€0.10/kg), and 20-kg piglets have dropped by €5, settling at €31.

Authorities, industry, and livestock farmers remain attentive to developments in the sanitary situation and any trade decisions that national and international buyers may make.
