Meat production grows in Russia

During the first 4 months of 2017, meat production in Russia has increased by 3.2%.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the production of pigs to be slaughtered rose by 5.4% and reached 1.37 million tonnes of live weight, whilst in the case of fowl, the increase was 3.6%, with a total of 2.1 million tonnes. At the same time, the production of cattle to be slaughtered dropped by 1%, and that of lambs and goats by 0.9%.

As of May 1st 2017, the pig census reached 23.2 million heads (+1.2%).
