The problems of river pollution and stench from commercial-scale pig farming activities in Kuching, Sarian and Samarahan can be overcome when the breeders relocate their operations to the 800-hectare integrated, environment-friendly pig-breeding centre, near Balai Ringin in Samarahan.

State Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie said the centre, located far away from towns areas and human settlements, was equipped with good infrastructure including an effluent treatment system and a bio-gas plant to treat the pig faeces.

The centre can accommodate about 250,000 pigs at any one time.
