Lithuania detects ASF after nearly a year

Two outbreaks more than 20 km apart have been reported on small pig farms.

On June 23, Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) reported a case of African swine fever (ASF) after almost a year without cases detected in the country. The outbreak occurred on a small farm with two pigs in Marijampolė municipality, Valavičiai village, around which carcasses of boars infected with ASF have been found.

On June 26, another outbreak of ASF was detected in Vilkaviškis district. sav., Gražiškių sen., Skardupia village, where six pigs were kept.

The distance between these two outbreaks is more than 20 km. According to the initial information collected, there was no contact between the infected farms, so these outbreaks are not related to each other.
