Italy: epidemiological situation of African swine fever in Sardinia

According to the latest report by Italian veterinary authorities to the SCFCAH, from 06.12.2011 to 03.01.2012 four outbreaks of ASF in domestic swine and 1 in the wild boar occurred in the Province of Nuoro (high-risk zone).

According to the latest report by Italian veterinary authorities to the SCFCAH, from 06.12.2011 to 03.01.2012 four outbreaks of ASF in domestic swine and 1 in the wild boar occurred in the Province of Nuoro (high-risk zone).

The area subject to restrictions has been greatly reduced. At the moment are free the Provinces of Cagliari, Carbonia-Iglesias, Olbia-Tempioand Oristano.

The presence of wild boars in Sardinia is estimated around 40.000 –70.000 animals: an average of 4 –6 animals per kmq of land useful.
