According to the Italian statistical institute (ISTAT) in the first quarter of this year, imports of live pigs have suffered a significant decline, especially in the case of pigs weighing more than 50 kg (-26.3% compared to the same period 2011) which confirms the downward trend of last year.

Particularly significant is also the decline in imports of pigs weighing less than 50 kg (-19.7% versus the first quarter of 2011) that marks a dramatic change in the years prior to the import of piglets. Data refers to the amount of live weight in tons.
