The outbreak was detected last 7 May on a farm in Calabria with a total of 20 pigs.

During 2014, a total of 5 outbreaks were detected: 2 in Basilicata, in the province of Potenza, with 690 susceptible animals; 1 in Campania, in the province of Salerno, with 50 animals; and 2 in Catanzaro, in Calabria, with 102 animals.
