Abruzzo has been classified by the European Union as free from African swine fever (ASF). The Rieti and Aquila area had been restricted after the appearance of the ASF outbreak.
On May 13, 2022, the Abruzzo Region approved the "Regional Plan of Urgent Measures for the Management, Control, and Eradication of African Swine Fever," which was immediately put into practice.
The Veterinary Service of the Region's Health Department announced the allowance for the area, specifying that the EU Decision (formal notification of which is awaited) will be followed by the relevant administrative measures to lift the restriction and monitoring measures.
