Guatemala has confirmed two new outbreaks of classical swine fever in Suchitepequez, in the villages of San Lorenzo (Zunilito) and Xiquina (Santo Domingo Suchitepequez).

In both cases, the outbreaks were detected in backyard farms without biosecurity measures. Animals are fed on grass, with corn and household waste; they are malnourished and have not been vaccinated.

The outbreaks were detected by veterinarians from the official Services. The event is limited to these farms. No more cases observed. Epidemiological surveillance is ongoing at a national level. Vaccination will be applied to pigs within a 3-km radius around the outbreaks; population vaccinated is composed of backyard animals; there is no industrial pig production unit within this perimeter.
