The initial figures from the Federal Information Center for Agriculture (BZL) show that in the 2024/25 financial year, 260 companies subject to reporting requirements produced a total of 22.2 million tons of compound feed. In the previous year, there were four more companies and a total of 21.7 million tons produced. Increases in production volumes were recorded for the three largest types of use (pigs, cattle, and poultry).

Pig feed remains the most significant type of feed with almost 8.4 million tons (previous year: 8.1 million tons). Cattle feed remains in second place with a production volume of 6.6 million tons, rising slightly (1.5%). Poultry feed rose to 6.5 million tons (previous year: 6.3 million tons).

Almost 19.8 million tons of reportable raw materials were processed for the total production volume.

The use of grain in compound feed fell slightly from 48.8 to 48.2%. However, in terms of the quantity of grain used, there was a slight increase: while a total of 10.6 million tons of grain were fed in 2023/24, the figure for 2024/25 was around 10.7 million tons.

The use of oil by-products in compound feed rose again: in the 2024/25 marketing year, almost 5.8 million tons of oilseed meal were processed into compound feed, almost 4.5% more than in the previous year.

Most compound feed manufacturers (59%) are located in the northern region, which comprises the federal states of Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Schleswig-Holstein. Around 22% of businesses are located in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland (southern region). Nineteen percent are located in the eastern region.
