In the first quarter of 2010, nearly 2 million tonnes of meat were commercially produced in Germany. This was an increase of 3.3% or 63,500 tonnes from the same quarter a year ago. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this increase was mainly due to a significant rise in poultry meat production.

With respect to pig meat, this increased slightly (by 1.6%), reaching 1,345,700 tonnes.
