Germany: New Minister of Food and Agriculture is Cem Özdemir

Cem Özdemir has been appointed as the new Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.

Upon taking office, the new Federal Minister Özdemir thanked his predecessor, Julia Klöckner, and her team for their work.

Özdemir is from Bad Urach in Baden-Württemberg. From 2008 to 2018, he was federal chairman of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN (Greens). From 1994 to 2002 and again since 2013 he has been a member of the German Bundestag. Until 2021 he was chairman of the Bundestag Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament. In the 2021 federal elections, he was the first Green politician in the Stuttgart constituency to be directly elected.
