In the first quarter of 2016, the total quantity of meat produced commercially in Germany amounted to slightly more than two million tonnes. Compared with the same period a year earlier, meat production decreased by 1.8 % or nearly 30,000 tonnes.

This was due to a decline in pork and beef production. A marked increase was however recorded for poultry production.
