Germany: data of the foreign meat trade

With respect to the meat exports, 72% of them were of pig meat.

According to provisional data of the German Statistics Office (Destatis), the imports of meat and offal reached 610,274 tonnes, and this represents a rise by 3% with respect to the same period of the previous year. The pig meat imports, that represent approximately half of all the imports, fell by 11%. Almost all the fresh and frozen pig meat imports came from member states of the EU. With respect to the import of meat products (cured sausages and meat preparations), it grew by 14% with respect to the previous year, reaching a volume of some 113,253 tonnes.

With respect to the meat exports, 72% of them were pig meat. These underwent a drop by 10% in comparison with the first trimester of 2013. Almost 85% of all the fresh and frozen pig meat exports were shipped to countries of the EU (some 340,000 tonnes), whilst some 62,000 tonnes were exported to third countries, and more than a quarter of them (26.4%) were shipped to South Korea.
