According to the German Farmers Association, the German meat industry with its 84.300
employees has increased its revenue by 2% to € 33.5 bn in 2009 of which € 7.3 bn or 22 % were
achieved through exports.

It is noticeable that the concentration in the industry is continuously proceeding. Some 52% of all pigs are slaughtered by the three largest companies Vion, Tönnies and Westfleisch. The overall ranking of the meat and meat product industry is still lead by the Tönnies group accounting for € 4 mio. The three largest VION sites Vion Food Hamburg, Moksel and Südfleisch (separately listed in the ranking below) jointly account for €3.8 mio revenue.
