France: slight reduction in pig production

Since the beginning of the year there has been a 4% decrease over the same period last year.

Throughout April pig production reached more than 2 million animals, 3% less than in the same month of the previous year. Since the beginning of the year there has been a 4% decrease over the same period last year.Regarding exports of live pigs in April, these were reduced by 9% compared with April 2011. Since the beginning of the year, the decrease reached 26% compared to 2011. Imports of live pigs, by contrast, have risen 15% in April but have been stable so far this year.

Pork exports have also suffered a decline during the month of April, standing at 4% compared with April 2011 while imports saw a slight increase of 0.70%. Germany has increased exports (16%), while Spain's fell by 3%.
