France: continued reduction in the slaughter of pigs

In May of 2011, the production of pork in France decreased by 1%. In June of 2011 the downward trend in slaughters continued, with a decrease of 1.8%.

In May of 2011, the production of pork in France decreased by 1%. If we look at the accrued total between January and May of 2011 the decrease is actually 1.6% with respect to the same period last year.

The surplus of live animal exports is less significant in 2011 in comparison with 2010, with a decrease of 6% between January and May. Actually, live pig exports were reduced by 10% and imports increased by 17%. Exports to Belgium, Luxembourg and to the new EU member countries decreased during the month of May, while imports of live animals from Spain and Holland increase significantly.

In June of 2011 the downward trend in slaughters continued, with a decrease of 1.8% compared with June of 2010. Pork exports have decreased by 0.8% since the beginning of 2011.
