During the past year the stock of slaughter pigs has decreased by 9 % to 3.3 million. However, there are indications that the bottom was reached this time round.

There are approximately 10 % more slaughter pigs than six months ago. The stock has decreased strongly since it peaked at 14 million a couple of years ago. During the first six months of 2009, 4.2 million pigs were exported out of which 85 % were below 50 kg.

The stock of sows remains unchanged compared to last quarter but is a little larger than at the same time last year. There is, however, no prospect of an increase in the number of sows.
