European Union - Increase in EU pork exportations

The data presented at the last meeting of the EU Commission’s Management Committee put EU pork exportations during the months of January and February of 2011 at 444.138 tons, which indicates a 29,6% increase compared with the same period last year.

The data presented at the last meeting of the EU Commission’s Management Committee put EU pork exportations during the months of January and February of 2011 at 444.138 tons, which indicates a 29,6% increase compared with the same period last year.

Although the main destinations continue to be Russia, with 27,5% of the total and Hong Kong (15,9%), South Korea stands out with an incredible 150% increase, reaching 37.213 tons (8,7% of total exports) and situating it in third place, followed by China and Japan with 8,1% and 7,8% of total exports.

As far as importations, during the first few months of this year these have decreased by 28,4% with respect to Jan – Feb of 2010 (5.960 tons vs. 8.340 tons).
