The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of the Spanish-based company Campofrío Food Group by Mexico-based company Sigma Alimentos.

Campofrío is active in the manufacturing and sale of processed meat products. Sigma is active in the production, distribution and sale of processed meat, cheese, yogurt and pre-cooked meals and beverages.

The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns as the overlaps between the parties' activities are very limited. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
