According to the swine census data as of October 1st 2012 published by the Danish Statistics Office, the total number of pigs has been 12,485,000, and this implies a fall by 1.6% with respect to the same period last year, when the total number of pigs was 12,693,000.

The decrease is mainly due to the fall in the number of pigs to be slaughtered (>50 kg), that have gone from 3,413,000 in October 2011 to 3,228,000 in October 2012.
