According to Mr. Carlos Ortíz Musulí, Technology and Development director of the Pig Production Group, that pertains to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2014 170,900 tonnes of pork were produced: 15,900 tonnes more than forecasted.

This rise is partly due to the increase in the average weight of the animals (reaching 96 kg), and also to the growth in the number of piglets born per farrowing, that reached 10.4 piglets.

In 2015, 165.000 will have to be produced, although the aim is to reach 180,000, Mr. Ortiz said.
