After the implementation of the contingency plan in the department of El Cesar, where, in 2013 classical swine fever outbreaks were detected, the ICA has confirmed and verified that the disease has been controlled and eradicated.

Among the ICA's efforts in order to rule out the presence of the disease, there is the use of 'sentinel pigs' brought from areas free from the disease in the department of Antioquía and given to the pig producers of Valledupar to prove, in this way, that the virus is not circulating and that it has been eradicated from the affected areas.

This task was carried out together with the pig producers' union, with which the ICA intensified the vaccination programme in order to control the classical swine fever outbreak that appeared in this department.

The entity has given compensations to the small producers affected by the compulsory slaughter of their pigs.
