The Agriculture and Livestock Institute of Colombia (ICA) has confirmed two new foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in cattle: one in Cúcuta, near the border with Venezuela, and another one in Tibacuy (Cundinamarca).

In the case of Cúcuta, the animals with vesicular symptoms were detected at a control post pertaining to the ICA and the Fiscal and Customs Police (Polfa). The samples taken tested positive for foot-and mouth disease type 0.

The animals came from a farm located in the village of San Faustino, at 300 meters from the border with Venezuela.

According to the Fiscal and Customs Police Major, Colonel William Valero, San Faustino is a passage for the smuggling of goods and animals. On the other hand, in the case that appeared in Tibacuy an epidemiologic relationship was established with Yacopí.

In Tibacuy (Cundinamarca), 16 animals from the affected property, and 147 in the outbreak area will be slaughtered. In San Faustino, 113 animals will be slaughtered because they are in the property were the disease was detected. All the animals will be buried in sanitary pits, as established by the international protocols.
