The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) of Mexico leads the work aimed at the initial monthly export of 750 tonnes of pork and 200 tonnes of beef to China through a task force of Chinese importers that are visiting Mexico.

During a business meeting with the president of the Chinese company ‘Hunam Suntale International Trading Group’, Mr. Zhu Forrest, the general coordinator for International Affairs of the SAGARPA, Mr. Raúl Urteaga Trani, underlined that, in compliance of the guidelines established by the Minister of the SAGARPA, Mr. José Calzada Rovirosa, the federal agency will intensify the actions needed to fulfil the international protocols that lead to the opening of new niche markets.

As a part of their activities, the Chinese importers visited the Kekén Federal Inspection Type (FIT) plant in Mérida (Yucatán), a plant that processes pork and that has already been approved and exports to Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea.

Likewise, there was an agreement to visit, shortly, the TIF establishment of Grupo GUSI, in Tamuín (San Luis Potosí), a plant that processes beef and that has the certification for exporting to the USA, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Angola, among other countries.

The business owner Mr. Zhu Forrest was surprised by the production and technological potential, and the food health and harmlessness processes of the Mexican meat products, as well as by the commitment of the producers and the authorities to reach, in the short-term, the agreement to set the trade of these high-quality products, something that will be mutually beneficial.

It must be remembered that last July 14th, the starting signal was given for the first shipping of Mexican pork to China, with an estimation of reaching exports of between 20 and 30 thousand tonnes of this product with a commercial value of 500 million pesos.
