The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China has decided to take actions to reduce the use of veterinary antimicrobials.

China recently announced the “Work program for the reduction of the use of antimicrobials in animals (2018-2021)”. The program points out the need to make an effort to implement the pilot plan for the reduction of the veterinary use of antibacterial drugs in livestock.

For the period 2018-2021, trials will be carried out for reducing the use of antibiotics on a hundred large laying hens, chickens, pigs, cattle, sheep and other species’ farms.

The farms that will participate in the pilot plan for the reduction in the use of antibiotics will have to regulate a rational, scientific and cautious use of veterinary antimicrobials, reduce the use of antibacterial growth promoters and implement the traceability of veterinary drugs.

On the other hand, as of 2020, the use of drug additives in feed will be banned.
